Quentin Blake

Quentin Blake has famously illustrated Roald Dahl's books, bringing to life character's such as Matilda, Willy Wonka, The BFG and the Twits. He has also collaborated with writers such as Michael Rosen, Russell Hoban, Joan Aiken and John Yeoman and created much-loved characters of his own, including ‘Mister Magnolia’ and ‘Mrs Armitage’.

Quentin Blake was born in 1932 and has drawn ever since he can remember. His books have won numerous prizes and awards, including the Whitbread Award, the Kate Greenaway Medal, the Emil/Kurt Maschler Award, the international Bologna Ragazzi Prize and the Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration.

In 1999 he was appointed the first ever Children’s Laureate.

In all Quentin Blake has collected 12 honorary degrees which recognise his outstanding contribution to the world of illustration and children’s literature.
