Artist Rosemary Gifford, born in, Limavady, Northern Ireland in 1950, is largely a self taught artist. She began painting in 2001. Within ten years she has become a prolific artist, winning multiple Art's Society of Ulster and the Ulster Society of Women Artists awards. She also exhibited two works with Royal Ulster Academy 2008. She was first inspired by Irish artists such as Neil Shawcross, Basil Blackshaw and Brian Ballard, but more recently she finds inspiration from international artists such as Ken Howard and the late Joan Ardley. Her bold expressive marks have created an instantly recognisable and fearless style, covering a white canvas (which she detests) as quickly as possible, and then working into and on top of the paint, letting the paint itself shape the final outcome.
