Details

Photographic poster prints of scenes from Belfast taken during the Troubles. Only six copies remaining.

This iconic image is striking. It is a scene of complete destruction yet in the foreground there is innocence and a hope for the future of the two young boys playing in the in the midst of rubble and remains of a burning bonfire. The dirty street is indeed their playground.

The image was captured by local photographer Frankie Quinn who was born in Ballymacarrett in 1966. He began to take photographs in 1982, documenting conflict in Ireland and further afield such as Palestine, Turkey and Bosnia. He stopped doing that sort of work after the peace process and the Good Friday Agreement and began documenting the peace lines in Belfast and has produced two books on them Interface Images and Streets Apart.

Frankie has exhibited his photography all around the world and is currently the Director of the Red Barn Gallery on Rosemary Street.

The image is available framed and unframed.
