Barbara Ellison
Barbara Ellison BA ATD WCSI UWA UWS studied at Belfast College of Art and was head of art at Stranmillis University College before becoming a full-time artist. She has a loose, confident and energetic style and uses a variety of media, often in combination. She experiments constantly, exploiting random effects while always underpinning her work with strong draughtsmanship. Using line and colour intuitively, her objective is to create an artwork containing a logic, coherence and life of its own while expressing her very personal response to the subject matter - whether landscape, still life or figurative.
Barbara has exhibited widely and has work in many collections both locally and abroad including several watercolours in the Limerick University Collection. Her paintings have been the subject of a wide range and an exceptional number of awards, including the following:- 2014: Whytes Auctioneers Award – Watercolour Society of Ireland; Duchess of Abercorn Award – Ulster Society of Women Artists; Art and Home Award – Ulster Watercolour Society; 2015 Painting on front cover of Watercolour Society of Ireland Catalogue; Art and Home Award – Ulster Watercolour Society; 2016 Bradbury Graphics Award – Ulster Watercolour Society; 2017 Bloc Award – Watercolour Society of Ireland; 2018 Award, Annual Exhibition – Ulster Watercolour Society.
