Cecilia Stephens

Cecilia Stephens was brought up and educated in England and Malta coming from a naval family.  After studying at Camberwell School of Art and Crafts she returned to settle in Northern Ireland in 1974 having married an Irishman. In 1978 she moved to Portaferry and has worked from home ever since.

She has been a member of Seacourt Print Workshop for many years and a member of the board of directors for five of these.

"I work predominantly from the landscape with reference to its nuances of light and texture. I am always aware of the elements of nature in front of me from the minutiae of plant and insect to the grandeur of the whole. My monotypes are explorations of all these but are influenced by the nature of the medium so that the weather in all its moods can become a non-static ingredient. Marks are achieved not only by laying in colour but also by wiping away."
