Margaret Arthur

Margaret Arthur is an artist based in Suffolk. For much of her career she has been interested in the landscape, its shifting light, interplay of colour and the architectural structures framed within it. Margaret ARthur works in her studio on the Suffolk coast, her painting informed by the constantly changing environment around her. She works with both oil and acrylic and produces work which is varied in size and dimensions. Her work is exhibited regularly in the UK, and has been bought by numerous private collectors over the years. Margaret Arthur began her career at Cambridge Art School before going on to Chelsea College of Art and Design in the early 1950s. There, the artists Prunella Clough and Ceri Richards were influential tutors and were a guiding force in Margaret's subsequent interest in landscape. After devoting much of her time to teaching and bringing up a family in the 1970s and 80s Margaret returned to full time painting, firstly in Kent, then moving to Suffolk in 1989.
