John Tinneny

He began taking photographs in earnest in 2007 after a particularly spectacular sunrise photo shoot along the Strangford Lough. John is constantly on the lookout for new locations to explore and photograph and is a frequent visitor to the Strangford Peninsula, The Mourne Mountains, the Antrim coast and the beaches of Donegal where he spent many happy childhood days. He has had a Licentiate panel of 10 images accepted by the Royal Photographic Society and is currently working towards an Associate qualification which is a panel of 15 images on the theme of man’s imprint on the Mourne Mountains. John’s recent achievements and awards include: -

• Images accepted into the local Northern Ireland Photographic Association exhibition for a number of years;
• Images accepted into a number of UK based photographic exhibitions including Dingwall National Projected Image Exhibition, Solihull Open Exhibition of British Photography and Winchester National Exhibition;
• An image included in the Catchlight Camera Club FIAP World Cup winning panel in 2016
• Winner of the 2016 Will McCrum Portrait Cup
• Catchlight Camera Club Photographer of the Year 2017
• Images accepted in the prestigious Royal Ulster Academy Exhibition in 2018 and 2019.

John believes that to understand and appreciate a particular location requires frequent visits at varying times of the day and throughout the seasons. The following extract from from T.S. Eliot’s ‘The Quartet’ sum up John’s reason for exploring the world around us: - “We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started 
And know the place for the first time.”
