'Biddy's Glencolmcille Donegal' is a signed photographic print by Frankie Quinn inside Biddy's pub circa 1997. At the time of this photograph it was a thriving public house, renowned worldwide for traditional music sessions, with guest rooms on the floors above the bar. The life size statue of Jesus on the landing, leading to the guest rooms, was being stored while the chapel in the village was being renovated.
As a young boy I stayed in Biddy's while on holidays, with my uncle. Many years later the same uncle, who had stayed in Biddy's around the time of this photograph, told me about this statue and how in the darkness as he was making his way upstairs to bed got the fright of his life.
This is a signed and dated hand printed silver gelatin print by Frankie Quinn, developed in a darkroom on glossy photographic paper which shows strong contrasts - blacks in the image are more prominent. This print dates back many years to when the photograph was developed and as such show signs of wear and tear, which in a perverse way has added character to the photograph. This print, along with the rest in his analogue print series, are among the last remaining black and white darkroom prints he developed.
