January 2026 - An Introduction To Oil Painting With Harry Foy (3 Part Course)

New to Yard Gallery! Three-hour progression painting classes over three weeks, suited to all levels. All materials are provided, and you’ll leave with your own painted artwork. Handmade brushes are supplied by Rosemary & Co.

Join County Down artist Harry Foy for a relaxed and enjoyable introductory oil painting course at Yard Gallery. With just four places available, this small group offers plenty of individual attention and the chance to develop your painting at your own pace.

Harry is a self-taught oil painter inspired by the landscapes of County Down, Donegal and beyond. He has a particular love of colour and composition, finding beauty in everyday scenes and bringing them to life through paint.

Across three sessions, Harry will guide you through the process of creating a landscape painting, from the initial composition to the finishing touches. Everyone will work from the same reference materials. Harry will demonstrate each stage, offer individual guidance, and help you simplify the scene into its main shapes, mix colours, and build your painting from thin paint towards thicker, lighter, and oilier paint. You’ll also learn to step back, assess your work, and add accents where they strengthen the composition.

Everyone works at a different pace. Some may finish their first landscape and begin another; others may spend longer developing the first. Take-home materials will help you practise what you’ve learned and continue painting beyond the course.

Perfect for complete beginners trying oils for the first time, or anyone returning to painting and looking to refresh their skills.
