Isabelle Ewing

Isabelle Ewing - I was born close to Belfast city centre in an area surrounded by mills and concrete.  The lack of green spaces led me to take a keen interest in colour and I started painting and drawing at a very young age. At school, I was introduced to the world of art, mix that together with my love of history of art and a passion for all things creative was born. It has remained with me throughout my life.

I would describe myself as a mixed media artist and often incorporate paper and fabric into my paintings. I work primarily in acrylics but love inks and watercolour.  It really just depends on the subject matter and what suits it best. Abstracts are my favourite form of expression followed closely by portraits.

During Covid i was working in papier mâché and I was lucky to have a papier mâché sculpture chosen by Grayson Perry for his exhibition in the Bristol Museum. My piece was on show there for a year alongside Banksy and other wonderful artists.

I also have had a book published by the lovely people at C and T publishing called instant softies. I wrote the book as I found there are very few crafts books that are suitable for complete beginners. My hope is that my book may start people on their creative journey and they may come to know the wonderful buzz you get from being creative.

I spend my summers in France and I recently had an exhibition of abstracts and papier mâché in a gallery close to where I live. I also had an exhibition at the John Luke Gallery in Arts for All. This is a wonderful charity that promotes arts for everyone regardless of skill or ability.

Thank you for listening to my story and I hope like me you will continue to enjoy the rich and wonderful tapestry that art brings us.

Isabelle.
