Jennifer Young

Jennifer Young is an artist and qualified architect. Originally from Co. Antrim, she is now based in Co. Down after spending 20 years working in London. Young has always loved art and is largely self-taught. Her style of art -unusually for an architect- is free, powerful and often abstract. Having spent the year concentrating on the human form and portraiture she turned her attention to the animal world. In 2013 she first exhibited her ‘Animals with Attitude’ series which has a fresh, vibrant and dynamic layered approach to portraiture. It captures those moments where the eyes become the focus of the painting, with each animal expressing its own unique character. From figurative painting to sculptural interpretations of landscapes, she continues to use Oils, Acrylics, Pencils and even objects found on the beach to interpret the world around her. She continues to work on a series of impressionistic Irish seascapes and industrial landscapes in oils whist considering the next animal focused series. Young has spent 5 months as one of the artists in residence at Project 24 in Bangor, and has been acknowledged with a number of prizes, one being the Kilfedder Award in 2012.
