Jenny Baird

Jenny began printmaking in 1996 while still attending Grammer School in Bangor, Co. Down, N. Ireland.  She has a unique, modern style and works almost entirely in monoprinting. This technique involves painting an image directly onto a printing plate and rolling it through the printing press on to the paper.  This creates unusual and often unexpected effects and as each print is an original, there can be no two prints exactly the same. Pencil  and  metal leaf are often used to gain extra depth and detail to the print. Jenny gains her inspiration from everyday objects.  For example, her print ‘Jumping Tulips’, which won the 2002 Royal Ulster Academy prize, takes a fun look at flowers on a table.
