Paul O'Kane
Paul is a retired architect and now a full time ‘plein air’ artist and tutor.
He spends his summer months tutoring painting holidays in Europe and has many years of experience giving painting demonstrations and workshops in various mediums to art groups.
Most demonstrations take about an hour as each one mimics a plein air painting which is itself an exercise in time saving techniques. Choosing a simple subject, use of a ground, using composition to advantage, limiting the colour palette, big brushes, beat the clock, or rather the elements.
Paul is a multi-award winner including Le Vieux Murier prize at the 2019 Ulster Watercolour Society, the international plein air fair, Art in the Open, Wexford Bronze Prize 2017 and The T Morris Award again at Art in the Open where he is a regular tutor.
He has written a number of gouache articles for 'The Artist' Magazine 2020.
